Abstract

Background: Corticosteroids are one of the most used drugs for the treatment of many health conditions, especially dermatological, respiratory and endocrine diseases. Pharmacists play an important role in ensuring public safety in the control and rational use of corticosteroids. Objective: To evaluate the status and factors influencing the intention to sell corticosteroids among pharmacy staff at retail pharmacies in Can Tho City during 2024-2025. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted through an online survey of 329 pharmacy staff at retail pharmacies in Can Tho City from May 2024 to January 2025. The survey questionnaire was designed using the Google Forms platform. Results: Among the 329 retail pharmacies participating in the study, 66.9% of the pharmacy staff were female, with 91.2% having a university degree in pharmacy, and most of them were pharmacy owners (89.4%). Regarding the type of pharmacy, 93.6% were private pharmacies, and 55.9% of the pharmacies were in urban areas. The results indicated that job position had a significant impact on the intention to sell corticosteroids, with pharmacy employees showing a higher tendency to sell corticosteroids than pharmacy owners. Conclusion: The study confirms that the job position of pharmacy staff significantly influences the intention to sell corticosteroids. This highlights the need to enhance training and supervision of pharmacy staff, particularly in private pharmacies, to ensure the sale of corticosteroids complies with regulations and protects public health.
