RESEARCH ON THE PREVALENCE AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS OF STUDENTS' INTENTION TO STUDY ABROAD AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY

Abstract
Background: In the process of globalization and international integration, the number of students choosing to study abroad is increasing. This decision brings many opportunities for students and is influenced by various factors. Objectives: To determine the rate and some factors related to the intention to study abroad among students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2024. Materials and Methods: The study was designed as a descriptive cross-sectional survey, conducted with 1112 transfer and regular students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy during the academic year 2023-2024. Results: The percentage of students who intend to study abroad was 42.5%. Factors affecting this intention include age, training system, foreign language proficiency, competency standards requirements, economic status, prior study abroad experience, exposure to foreign lecturers or programs, travel history, and the area where students plan to work. Conclusion: The research has identified several factors related to students' intentions to study abroad. Therefore, it is necessary to propose practical solutions to expand opportunities, provide scholarships, and overcome obstacles to support students in achieving their goals of research and knowledge discovery in other countries.
