Abstract

Background: Hip arthroplasty helps restore the anatomy and function of the joint, relieves pain, and the patient returns to work and normal activities. Objectives: 1). To describe the epidemiological characteristics and causes of hip replacement in patients; 2). To determine costs and affordability of hip replacement patients. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study conducted on 144 patients with hip injury and indicated for hip replacement surgery in Soc Trang General Hospital from May 2020 to March 2021. Results: Female sex was higher than male, accounting for 63.9% and 36.1% respectively. The mean age of hip replacement patients was 71.9± 15.2; mainly the age group was 60 years old and above. The patient's hip replacement time was mainly <5 years with 85.4%. The main cause of cavernous joint replacement was femoral neck fracture, accounting for 63.9%; Intertrovertebral fracture accounted for 21.5%; aseptic necrosis of the femoral head 14.6%. Total cost of hip replacement treatment for patients was 28.142.117.9 ± 3.532.398.2; the lowest was 16.855.077 VND and the highest was 46.819.298 VND. Regarding the ability to pay when having health insurance, 100% of patients consider the cost of hip replacement treatment to be at an acceptable level. Conclusion: Strengthen communication on femoral neck fracture prevention in elderly women to reduce hip arthroplasty.
