Abstract

Background: Uncontrolled hypertension was an important public health problem in developing and even developed countries. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and factors associated of uncontrolled blood pressure among hypertensive patients at Kien Giang General Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study design. Simple random sampling method was used to select 370 participants. Data was entered to and it was exported to Stata version 14.0 for analysis. Results: A total of 370 patients with hypertension were included in this study. The greater proportion of participants, 202 (54.6%), were females. The mean age of the respondents was 62.3 ± 8.1 years. Prevalence of uncontrolled hypertension was found 31.1%. Overweight (OR = 2.97, p<0.001), no attempt to follow the dietary therapy (OR = 2.15, p=0.005), non-adherence to anti-hypertensive medication (OR = 3.95, p<0.001) were significantly associated with uncontrolled hypertension. Conclusions: The prevalence of uncontrolled hypertension was 31.1%. Non-adherence to anti-hypertensive medications, overweight, no attempt to follow the dietary therapy were more likely to have uncontrolled hypertension.
