Abstract

Background: Management of parenteral antibiotic usage in hospitals is one of the most important activities, orientation for antibiotic management program in the Hospital. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics and the tendency of parenteral antibiotics utilization at An Giang Central General Hospital in the period of 2018, to evaluate the appropriate indication of antibiotic use and evaluate the results after the intervention. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with analysis and intervention on 616 medical records using injectable antibiotics used at An Giang Central General Hospital of 2018. Results: The cost of antibiotic indications accounted for 21.64% of the total drug cost. The beta-lactam group was the most used popular antibiotic at 54.04%. The appropriate parenteral antibiotic using rate was 93.02%. After an intervention, the use rate of injectable antibiotics was unreasonably reduced by 5.68% with a significance level with p = 0.004 (<0.05). Conclusion: This study has described the appropriate results of injectable antibiotic with help An Giang General Hospital work out appropriate and safe antibiotic management strategies.
