THE PREVALENCE OF HIV AND RISK BEHAVIORS OF CLIENTS IN COUNSELLING AND TESTING HIV SERVICES IN CAN THO CITY FROM 2019 TO 2020

Abstract

Background: Counselling and testing HIV (VCT) is a primary step to reach HIV goal “90-90-90” of the government committed in 2014 AIDS Global Conference in Australia, hosted by the United Nations. Objectives: To determine the HIV prevalence and risk behaviors on uptake of VCT among clients in Can Tho, 2019. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional design was conducted on 1.397 clients from 09 VCT services in Can Tho. This data was collected from April to September in 2019 by using clusters sampling methods. Results: HIV infection prevalence was 7.4% in which men account for 88.3%. The main aged group 21-30 years infected with HIV infection was 56.7%. The HIV infection in amon MSM group was 60.2% and in multiple sex partner behaviors were 18.4%. Risk behaviors of MSM clients were 68.9% and multiple sex partners behavioral was 24.3%. In term of sexual behaviors in the past 30 days, the percentage of clients having vaginal and anal sex was 18.2% and 83.6% respectively, in which the rate of not using condoms when having sex accounts for 50.9%. Conclusion: This research documented that the HIV infection in VCT clients at 7.4% and this tend to rejuvenating and concentrating on MSM groups. Many of risk behaviors from clients such as : homosexual behaviors and behavior of multiple sex partners, intercourse anal sex and non-condom usage at high rate, increased spreading HIV infection to male and female sexual partners in the population.
