EVALUATING THE RESULT OF ATELECTASIS TREATMENT BY ENDOSCOPIC SURGERY AT CAN THO ENT HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: Atelectasis is a common disease of the middle ear. The cause is usually Eustachian tube dysfunction and modified fiber layer structure of the eardrum. Atelectasis is often poor symptoms, silently progress can lead to the formation of cholesteatoma. Objectives: Determining clinical, subclinical features of atelectasis and evaluating the results of endoscopic surgery to treat atelectasis.  Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive on 67 cases diagnosed atelectasis from 4/2018 to 6/2020 at Can Tho Ear Nose Throat Hospital. Results: Clinical characteristics included 100% tinnitus, 94% hearing loss, 56.7% ear pain, 23.9% fluid drainage from the ear; 74.6% the pars tensa atelectasis. The grade 2 atelectasis and grade 4 atelectasis are the most common. Subclinical characteristics included conductive hearing loss 53.7% with average PTA 47.6 ± 22.5 dB, average ABG 26.6 ± 12.0 dB. Treatment results: 98.5% of cases do not have collapse and have improved hearing after surgery. Conclusion: Endoscopic surgery treatment atelectasis is an effective intervention in terms of restoring tympanic membrane and function.
