Abstract

  Background: Implantation of catgut thread into acupuncture points for the treatment of degenerative spinal pain has made many improvements compared to the past and proven effective. Objectives: evaluate the therapeutic effect of the method of implantation of catgut thread into acupuncture points in patients with low back pain due to degenerative spine. Materials and methods: Research on convenient sampling of 46 patients met sampling criteria and was diagnosed with low back pain caused by degeneration in Can Tho Traditional Medicine Hospital and implanted catgut thread into acupuncture point according to protocol, data analysis using SPSS 18.0 software. Results: Improving Schober index (before treatment was 11.18cm; after 15 days of treatment, it was 13.3cm) statistically significant with p <0.001; improving the hand-soil index (before treatment was 43.8cm; after 15 days, it was 11.15cm) with statistical significance with p <0.001; improving VAS pain score scale (before treatment was 7.07; after 15 days is 2.0) statistically significant with p <0.001; improvement in Ritchie pain score (before treatment was 2.93; after 15 days was 0.72) was statistically significant with p <0.001. Conclusion: The method of implantation of catgut thread in the acupuncture point in patients with pain caused by lumbar spine degeneration has the effect of reducing pain, improving spinal elongation and range of motion, the results have statistical meanings with p <0.001.
