LEVEL OF COMMUNITY INTEGRATION, MINI MENTAL STATE EXAMINATION AFTER 12 MONTHS INTERVENTION OF SCHIZOPHRENIA PATIENTS IN MO CAY NAM DISTRICT, BEN TRE PROVINCE IN 2019 – 2020

Abstract

Background: Schizophrenia can become a burden to family and society if treatment is not good enough. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate level of community integration and finds out some factors relating to community integration of patients with schizophrenia in Mo Cay Nam district, Ben Tre province, Viet Nam 2019-2020. Materials and methods: Across-sectional descriptive study with non-control intervention was conducted in 224 patients with schizophrenia managing treatment in Mo Cay Nam district, Ben Tre province, Viet Nam. Results: Before intervention, there was 66.5% integrated, 25.0% not integrated, and 8.5% decline over, while 55.8% had cognitive disorder. Factors including: Occupation, age of onset, early detection and treatment of disease, adherence to treatment, participation in recreational activities, no brain damage showed statistically association with evaluate level of community integration after treatment. After 12 months of intervention, there was 81.3% integrated, 12.9% not integrated, and 5.8% decline over, while 52.2% had cognitive disorder. Family and social inclusion skills have improved. Conclusions: There is an improvement in the patient's level of community integration after intervention, early detection and treatment, adherence to treatment, encouraging patients to participate in recreational activities, without brain damage, enhance the support of the community can help people with schizophrenia improving and integrating with the life.
