TUBERCULOSIS SITUATION IN HIV/AIDS PATIENTS MANAGED AT HIV/AIDS PREVENTION CENTER IN TAY NINH PROVINCE IN 2018-2020

Abstract
Background: HIV infection has a great influence on tuberculosis because HIV infection reduces the immune cells, the immune system, including TCD4 lymphocytes. HIV infection increases the forms of drug-resistant tuberculosis, leading to tuberculosis that may not be cured. Objectives: Determining the prevalence, types of tuberculosis and some related factors in HIV/AIDS patients managed at the Center for HIV/AIDS prevention and control of Tay Ninh province in 2018-2020. Materials and methods: A retrospective and cross-sectional study were conducted on 1258 HIV/AIDS patients who were over 18 years old from January, 2019 to May, 2020. Results: The rate of tuberculosis infection in HIV/AIDS patients was 8.5%, in which, 47.7% infected with AFB (+) tuberculosis, AFB (-) tuberculosis 29.0% and extrapulmonary tuberculosis was 27.1%; newly discovered tuberculosis accounts for 90.7% and relapse was accounts for 6.5%. Related factors: HIV/AIDS patients in female and office staff groups got the rate of tuberculosis infection were lower than the others, statistically significant differences with p<0.05. Conclusions: The prevalence of tuberculosis per HIV/AIDS infected person accounts for a low rate (8.5%) and a variety of tuberculosis types, mainly the new AFB (+) type (90.7%). Related factors to tuberculosis in HIV/AIDS were gender and occupation.
